Weekend Getaway: An OK girl in KC

A weekend getaway store from photographer and new lover of all things Kansas City, Kayli Henley.

Last March, the husband and I took a weekend getaway to @visitkc. We asked all the locals how we could experience KC like the locals do (with the exception of a few "touristy" things).

Our first meal in Kansas City had to be BBQ so we tried out @q39kc and it was amazing. My husband vouches it was the best BBQ he has ever tried.

We @uber’d all around and our driver suggested @kellyswestportinn in the Westport district. Definitely an eclectic group of people...city cops, retired folks, bachelorette parties, just turned 21, everyone goes to Kelly's! The bartender at Kelly’s was a man by the name of Red who has worked there for 30+ years, and he was our entertainment of the evening. We had one of the best evenings just sitting there chatting with him about life.  

We also went to the @CountryClubPlaza where there was tons of shopping! I got my first @kendrascott necklace and we tried a local favorite Topsy’s popcorn and ice cream and surprisingly we also made it to a movie.

We brunched at Beer Kitchen in Westport and also, @succotashbrunch in the Hospital Hill area which has been featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-ins, Dives show. I had their "rooster" fresh pressed juice and blueberry pancakes, YUM!

Living in the Midwest @boulevard_beer is found at almost every bar, so we had to view their brewery and taste everything they have to offer.  Many locals suggested @updownkc for video games, drinks, outdoor table games and more. It was by far one of the coolest bars we have been to, we can't wait to go back.

We tried a yummy farm-to-table restaurant @thewestsidelocal, where we met fellow okie, @poisonokie. She was a roller derby girl in OK!

On our last night there we went to the @flyingsaucerkansascity and made a quick decision to buy some tickets to the @acdc concert at the @SprintCenter. We stayed at the Hilton President and loved the hotel and location. I think we enjoyed every bit of that city and can't wait to go back!
