Don’t Miss these 2019 Halloween Events and Activities in Kansas City

September 12, 2019

Whether in search of frights at haunted houses or charming costume festivities for the kiddos, Kansas City has your October covered during Halloween season.

Haunted Houses

  • The Edge of Hell – Sept. 6-Nov. 1 (select nights): The Edge of Hell first set up shop in 1975 and hasn’t stopped scaring people since with its five-story house of horrors. The West Bottoms haunt is a can’t-miss for the courageous few willing to put their fear factors to the test.
  • The Beast – Sept. 6-Nov. 1 (select nights): One of the most established (and frightening) haunted houses in Kansas City takes travelers through several bone-chilling settings. Count on frights in a Louisiana mansion and bayou swamp, Jack the Ripper’s foggy London, a medieval castle and a forest filled with werewolves.
  • Macabre Cinema – Sept. 20-Oct. 31 (select nights): This West Bottoms haunted house recreates famous scenes from classic and modern horror films. Are you brave enough to withstand the Hollywood horrors?
  • Exiled – Oct. 4-Nov. 2 (select nights): Known as the city's only haunted forest tour, visitors are tasked with navigating their way to safety after being left alone in the middle of the nearly pitch black woods while avoiding a whole host of creeps, freaks and more.

Other Spooky Fun

  • Halloween Haunt – Sept. 14-Oct. 26 (Friday and Saturday nights): This spectacular fright festival at Worlds of Fun takes place once the sun sets, unleashing unthinkable terror on the unsuspecting visitors as hundreds of monsters are let loose throughout the park.
  • Vaile Mansion Ghost Hunt – Oct. 5: Long-known as a site for supernatural activity, Independence’s historic Vaile Mansion opens for a single night as amateur ghosthunters are invited to investigate the property’s paranormal goings-on.

  • Carved Haunted Trail – Oct. 19: This one-night-only Riverside attraction combines a scary trail experience through a haunted trail with a real fortune teller, pumpkin carving contest and other seasonal excitement.
  • CarnEVIL At Kansas City Live! – Oct. 26: The bustling Power & Light District transforms into the city’s largest Halloween party during this adults-only bar crawl and costume contest.
  • The Basement – Open year-round: Put your wits and courage to the test in this live escape room experience featuring challenging puzzles, live actors and an anxiety-inducing time limit to break free from two different rooms.

Halloween For The Family

  • Pumpkin Patches – Sept.-Oct.: While not technically Halloween-themed, Kansas City autumns just wouldn’t be the same without visits to some of the finest pumpkin patches in the region.
  • Hoots and Howls – Oct. 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20: Spooky but not scary is the theme of this three-weekend Kansas City Zoo event featuring themed visits from iconic movie characters, a hay bale maze, crafts and even animal pumpkin smashing.
  • Dogtober Fest – Oct. 20: Canine companions are welcome at this Blue Springs event that includes a four-legged costume contest, dog walks, tricks competitions and other pooch-specific activities.
  • Historical Hauntings – Oct. 26: Arrive costumed at Shawnee Town 1929 for a historical take on the Halloween experience, such as hayrides and farmstead tours, as well as more modern entertainment for youngsters.
